'Smore Krispies! (D) 07/08/2010
This is something my daughters and I invented a couple of months ago. I'm sure it's not original by any means-but we put it all together with our heads and taste buds so we will call it our recipe. During the beginning of the summer season (in Florida-that's like March) we usually have campfires at least once a week-if it is an exceptionally nice week weather-wise we'll have them more often. They always consist of marshmallows, sometimes of 'Smores and every once in a while a full blown dinner will be made on the fire. This recipe came to us on Veteran's day. We had had a few campfires that week and were well stocked in 'Smores 'Supplies and we also had a box of regular Krispies and a box of cocoa Krispies. So-here goes: (full ingredient list) 1/4 cup of butter 1 package of big marshmallows 3 cups regular Rice Krispies 3 cups cocoa Krispies at least 3 Hershey's bars (4 if you are going to be eating one while you cook) graham crackers-enough to line the bottom of your pan...or you can use your favorite graham cracker crust recipe. a smidge more butter. Follow the instructions on your Rice Krispies box to make the Krispie treats. (I had a ton of help so the following things were actually done as I was doing the melting so I would suggest doing it prior) While melting the marshmallow they gathered a huge bowl and added all 6 cups of cereal-then they broke the Hershey's bar up into small pieces (Each small rectangle was broken into about 3 pieces) and stirred those in with the cereal to evenly distribute them. Then they put the graham crackers in the bottom of our pan (ours was 13x9) and spread with a thin layer of butter (I'm lying. The truth is I had a failed attempt at making my own graham cracker crust and so my pan already had some butter on the bottom-but when I realized how great the butter made things turn out I pretended it was on purpose) Once the marshmallows are added stir them into the bowl of cereal. As soon as everything is combined spread on top of the graham crackers. This is a very sticky recipe but I found that if you wet your CLEAN hands you'll be able to help the sticky mess into the pan without being a sticky mess yourself! I should let you know that in general I hate Rice Krispie treats-I stay away from them at all costs. But these? They were soooo delicious! I ate just a bit too much of them. Comments07/09/2010 06:44:28 I'm printing this out right away! I'm not a fan of Rice Krispie treat either, but I like the sound of the addition of chocolate! Also, my kids like the traditional recipe so I think they'll love this! Leave a Reply |
